EDUCATION

University of California at Berkeley Law School (Boalt Hall), 1966 to 1969. Received J.D. Degree, June 1969.

Eastern Washington University, Cheney Washington, 1962 to 1966. Received B.A. with major in political science and minor in economics. Graduated with high honors.

Army Judge Advocate General's School, Charlottesville, Virginia, January 1970 to March 1970.

LEGAL EXPERIENCE

January 1999 to present: Founded "Your Man Friday" a legal practice to provide high-quality legal research, writing, and litigation support to family law attorneys. Qualified in California courts as an expert witness on "Moore/Marsden" theory and calculations, and complicated tracing issues.

November 1996 to December 1998: Sabbatical to participate in private business venture.

June 1974 to October 1996: General civil and criminal practice in San Francisco Bay area.

  • Extensive experience in family law, including preparation and trial of complicated business valuation and classification issues.

  • Representation of computer programmers in negotiation of contracts, including negotiations with the Copyright and Patents Office of the University of California.

  • Representation of computer programmers in disputes and litigation.

  • Extensive appellate experience, both in civil and criminal cases, researching, briefing and arguing cases, including the reversal of a murder conviction and numerous complicated family law appeals.

  • Handled several complex writ cases before the court of appeal.

  • Prior to 1982 handled hundreds of criminal cases, including serious homicide and felony matters. (Retired from criminal practice in 1982).
March 1970 to March 1974: Attorney in U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's Corps.

March 1973 to March 1974: Assigned to the Defense Appellate Division of the U.S. Army, Falls Church Virginia. Handled over sixty criminal appeals, researching, briefing and arguing the cases before the U.S. Court of Military Appeals, and the Army Court of Review in Washington, D.C. Awarded a second Army Commendation Medal for outstanding legal performance.

March 1970 to March 1973: Assigned to the U.S. Army Trial Center in Nuremberg, Germany as a criminal lawyer. Acted as defense counsel for approximately the first half of the tour and prosecuted for the remainder. Tried over 200 criminal cases including many serious felonies. Advised commanders as charging authority and organized anti-crime programs. Sat as judge on summary courts martial. Awarded Army Commendation Medal for outstanding legal performance.

SOFTWARE PROGRAMMING AND DEVELOPMENT

1987: Developed the Community Property Divider software program, which is used by many family law attorneys in the state of California. Version 3.0 was released in June 1993.

1988: Consultant re: the SupporTax program for calculation of child support and spousal support according to California legislative guidelines. Wrote the SupporTax manual and participated in program design and technical support.

1993: Completed development and programming of the IBM version of "Instant Actuary," a program for calculating the present value of pension benefits.

1999: Developed an improved Windows release of Community Property Divider ("CPD 2000"), released and marketed by Attorney's Briefcase, Inc. Authored and programmed entire "Help" system for the program including topics on substantive law such as "Moore/Marsden," Fam.Code Section 2640 reimbursement claims, Epstein credits, and capital gain consequences in property divisions.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE / EXPERT QUALIFICATION

Professor of California Community Property Law at Golden Gate University Law School,
2005 - 2006.

Professor of California Community Property Law at San Francisco Law School, 1979 - 2004. Director of tutorial program for San Francisco Law School, 1986 to 1995. Professor of Legal Analysis at San Francisco Law School, 1988 to 1995.

Qualified in Alameda County, Contra Costa County, San Francisco County, and San Mateo County as an expert witness regarding tracing issues and Moore/Marsden theory and calculations.

Speaker and Panelist for continuing legal education programs for attorneys and certified public accountants. Fall 2002: Sole author and seminar leader of "Pushing the Limits: An In-Depth Analysis of Moore/Marsden Issues" a three-hour CLE program presented by Attorney's BriefCase® in Los Angeles, Oakland, San Jose, Orange County, San Diego, and Chico. Instructor and speaker for computer software education for attorneys and certified public accountants.
